Victor has been told that he must provide more photos of the puppy. For those of you less interested, I've put them in the extended entry.
Saturday afternoon, in the backyard. On a leash for the first time — and not enjoying it too much.

He didn't mind it quite as much as long as he got to carry the end in his mouth:

Back inside the house, learning where the food bowl will be kept:

Next day, Xander (the puppy's new name) trying to snooze in a chair with Victor:
Xander has two modes right now: frenetic activity (which is amusing to watch, but very tough to catch on camera) and sleeping. Here's a brief moment when he wasn't moving too fast to blur the image:
He'd just finished bouncing around with Victor, but wasn't quite ready to fall asleep here:

It doesn't show up at this resolution, but he's already carrying a battle scar from getting too close to one of the cats: Cinders popped him in the eye when he foolishly tried to run past her. He's been avoiding her much more carefully ever since.
Posted by Nicholas at June 18, 2006 12:59 AMUnusual name but a nice name. Now what is the proper pronouciation?"Zander". It's a BTVS reference, which became more appropriate about an hour after we agreed on the name, as he got popped in the eye by Cinders. We're really hoping that our Zander's eye injury is less serious than the original Zander's!
Victor is looking a wee bit tired. How is Victor finding all this?I think Victor didn't realize just how much attention puppies need: kittens are a breeze in comparison. He's still happy we've got Xander, but he's hours-minus on sleep . . . and this is exam week.
Any objects become victims of puppy's teeth yet? How is puppy adjusting? My arm, primarily. For reasons best known to the pup, he's decided that I'm the human for him. He expresses this by spending as much time beside me (or under my feet) as he can. When he gets very tired, he likes to gnaw on things and my wrist is one of his favorites. I'm working to prevent that from becoming a habit. Other than that, he's coping quite well with the separation from his mother and litter mates. He's still not happy about having to sleep in the crate, but he's starting to accept the inevitability of it. Last night's uproar went on for only 15 minutes (the previous night was over an hour). He's darling and I'm sure you are enjoying him.Yeah, odd days. Even days he's posessed by the spirit of mischief. Today was an even day. Posted by: Nicholas at June 23, 2006 12:19 AM
Don't let him hold the leash in his mouth though.I dunno. If the choice is between letting him occasionally bite the leash and occasionally bite my hand, I know which of the two I would prefer! Posted by: Nicholas at June 23, 2006 12:20 AM
My year old kitten is just as hard to photograph. It'd be easier if someone else in the family was interested in taking photos, but I'm the designated shutterbug in our "pack". I'll probably be lucky to get one shot in ten worth publishing on the blog. My digital camera, so state-of-the-art three years back, is now somewhat of a dinosaur. It shows especially in the delay between me pressing the shutter release and the image actually being recorded. It's only about two seconds, but for action shots it might as well be two months!
