Bustulated in IE6, fine in FFox 2.0.0.8.
My blog is the same way, for the same browsers. Looks great in FFox and IE7, but complete crap in IE6. I have given up correcting anything for IE6 though. Surely it's legacy at this point. =)
The concern is that the sudden busted appearance really is sudden: it was working last night for the reader who first reported the issue and was broken this morning. I made no changes (really . . . nothing changed except that I added a single post over the reported elapsed time), but now the blog doesn't display correctly in Opera and IE.
When I first looked at the main page after the issue was reported, it was broken in all three browsers, but after a refresh in Firefox, it was working there properly. It's still broken in the other two browsers, though.
I am, as they say, stumped.
I wonder if this may have something to do with the changes you made to the Category template page. Could you have changed something in a frameset file somewhere?
For what it is worth - I am looking at it IE7 and its a bust.

No, I don't think so. I just backed out those changes, and it hasn't fixed the problem. I didn't make changes to any other template file or the CSS, so returning the Category template to its pre-bustulated condition should have undone the damage.
But it hasn't.
I'm even more stumped now.
It's going to take some time to do, but did you try rebuilding/refreshing the entire blog in MT?
Yeah, I probably should. Expect service to extremely slow on bolditalic.com for the next hour or two, while it grinds through the whole site.
